Process as a Practice

Following a process, or rather performing a practice, is the art of creating an opportunity to connect with yourself and others, and in doing so allow for transformation to take place in a meaningful way. By doing the practice, be it running or writing or making or whatever, you allow these new connections and insights to spontaneously emerge. Merely doing the practice is enough; no need to focus on its outcomes. These are distractions that draw energy from the moment. The attention must center on the practice.

A good quote that mirrors this thought, from Elizabeth King: “Process saves us from the poverty of our intentions.” All that is needed is a space to start. No need for perfection; start “messy” if you need to. But more importantly, start one piece at a time, and enjoy the process as it unfolds. You never know what may happen.
